Old Granite

Old Granite stamped concrete is one of the most popular decorative concrete finishes for homeowners in Trent Hills, Campbellford, and Quinte West looking for a natural stone appearance with long-term durability.

This pattern replicates the textured look of weathered granite slabs, featuring subtle stone variation, natural cleft surfaces, and organic joint lines. The result is a realistic stone finish that adds character and depth to patios, walkways, driveways, pool decks, and front entrances — without the high cost or maintenance of real granite.

  • ✔ Realistic granite stone texture

  • ✔ Durable reinforced concrete base

  • ✔ Lower maintenance than natural stone

  • ✔ Resistant to shifting and settling

  • ✔ Custom colour blends to match your home

Unlike traditional interlock or natural stone installations, stamped concrete provides a continuous surface that helps reduce weed growth and joint movement — making it ideal for Ontario’s freeze-thaw climate.

Exposed Aggregate

Exposed aggregate concrete is a durable, slip-resistant, and visually striking finish that’s become a top choice for homeowners in Trent Hills, Campbellford, and Quinte West looking to upgrade their outdoor spaces.

This finish is created by carefully removing the top layer of cement paste to reveal the natural stone and decorative aggregates beneath. The result is a textured surface with rich colour variation and long-lasting strength — perfect for Ontario’s changing seasons.

✔ Highly durable and long-lasting

✔ Naturally slip-resistant (ideal for pool decks, driveways & walkways)

✔ Low maintenance compared to interlock

✔ Resists shifting and settling

✔ Custom aggregate blends and border options available

Unlike interlocking pavers, exposed aggregate is poured as a solid slab, reducing weed growth and joint separation over time. It offers the beauty of natural stone combined with the structural integrity of reinforced concrete.

Engineered Slabs

Engineered monolithic slabs are a strong, efficient foundation solution for garages, shops, pole barns, additions, and accessory buildings across Trent Hills, Campbellford, and Quinte West.

A monolithic slab is poured in one continuous placement — combining the footing and slab into a single reinforced concrete structure. When properly engineered, this system provides excellent load-bearing capacity, reduced construction time, and long-term durability in Ontario’s freeze-thaw climate.

What Is an Engineered Monolithic Slab?

Unlike traditional foundations that require separate footings and foundation walls, a monolithic slab thickens at the perimeter and load-bearing areas to distribute structural weight efficiently.

When required, we work from engineered drawings to ensure:

✔ Proper footing depth and thickened edges
✔ Reinforcement placement (rebar or wire mesh)
✔ Load capacity for garages, shops, and equipment
✔ Compliance with Ontario Building Code requirements

This makes monolithic slabs ideal for:

  • Detached garages

  • Pole barns

  • Workshops

  • Carports

  • Shed foundations

  • Home additions

  • Heated slab floors

Built for Ontario Conditions

In Southern Ontario, soil type and frost depth matter. At Do-iron Construction Inc., we focus on:

  • Proper excavation to undisturbed soil

  • Compacted granular base installation

  • Moisture barrier installation (when required)

  • Reinforcement placement

  • Precision forming and finishing

We ensure each engineered slab is designed to resist frost movement, settling, and structural cracking — especially important in dense clay soils common in the Trent Hills region.

Why Choose an Engineered Slab?

✔ Faster construction timeline
✔ Cost-effective compared to full foundation walls
✔ Excellent strength and load distribution
✔ Ideal for radiant in-floor heating systems
✔ Clean, finished floor surface ready for use

If you’re searching for engineered concrete slab contractors in Trent Hills or Campbellford, we provide professional installation built to meet structural requirements and long-term performance expectations.

Integral Coloured Concrete vs. Colour Hardeners – What’s the Better Choice?

When choosing stamped or decorative concrete in Trent Hills, Campbellford, or Quinte West, one of the most important decisions is how the concrete will be coloured.

At Do-iron Construction Inc., we primarily recommend integral coloured concrete over traditional surface-applied colour hardeners for long-term durability and consistent results in Ontario’s freeze-thaw climate.

Here’s why.

What Is Integral Coloured Concrete?

Integral colour means the pigment is mixed directly into the concrete at the plant. The colour runs through the entire slab — not just the surface.

This creates a consistent, full-depth colour throughout the concrete.

What Are Colour Hardeners?

Colour hardeners are broadcast onto the surface of freshly poured concrete and worked into the top layer. They create a coloured surface crust that sits primarily at the top of the slab.

While they can produce vibrant colours, they are surface-dependent.

Benefits of Integral Coloured Concrete

1️⃣ Full-Depth Colour Protection

Because the colour runs throughout the slab:

✔ Minor surface chips are less noticeable
✔ Wear patterns don’t expose grey concrete underneath
✔ Long-term appearance remains consistent

With colour hardeners, surface damage can reveal uncoloured concrete below.

2️⃣ Better Performance in Ontario’s Climate

Southern Ontario’s freeze-thaw cycles and road salt exposure can be tough on decorative concrete.

Integral colour:

✔ Reduces risk of surface scaling
✔ Performs better with repeated sealing
✔ Provides consistent colour even after years of use

Colour hardeners create a dense surface layer, but if that layer fails, repairs can be more noticeable.

3️⃣ More Uniform Colour

Because pigment is blended at the plant, integral colour offers:

✔ Even distribution
✔ Reduced blotching
✔ Predictable final results

Surface-applied hardeners depend heavily on timing and finishing technique, which can sometimes lead to shade variations.

4️⃣ Lower Long-Term Maintenance

Integral coloured concrete:

✔ Is easier to reseal
✔ Doesn’t rely on a thin coloured surface layer
✔ Maintains appearance longer with proper care

For homeowners investing in stamped concrete patios, walkways, or driveways in Trent Hills and Quinte West, durability matters.

When Are Colour Hardeners Used?

Colour hardeners can be beneficial when:

  • Extremely bold or custom colours are required

  • Higher surface abrasion resistance is desired in commercial settings

However, for most residential stamped concrete projects in Southern Ontario, integral colour provides a stronger balance of durability, appearance, and long-term value.
